Assistive Technology
LADACIN has always been committed to remaining on the cutting edge of assistive technology that will benefit our students and clients.
Our assistive technology program includes augmentative communication, computer access, adapted toys and switches, electronic aids for daily living, seating, positioning, mobility, and work site modification. We offer an array of low-tech and high-tech options for computer technology, ranging from adaptive keyboards to state of the art interactive whiteboards. Through our process, which integrates therapy and education, our team strives to maximize any purposeful movement an individual may have; for example, using a head pointer or hitting a switch with a knee or foot. By incorporating the tools that make learning accessible with intensive personalized instruction, LADACIN staff is equipped to help students and clients reach their full potential.
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) & Life Skills
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) & Life Skills
We use Assistive Technology to help individuals gain greater independence in the areas of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Life Skills. Our goal is to assess an individual’s functional status, determine individual goals, work towards increasing independence, and maximize potential. Transdisciplinary teams work together to ensure the use of all tools available (high and low tech) to ensure success.
We encourage the training and development of ADLs and practical living skills such as: personal hygiene, feeding, meal preparation, laundry, sewing, basic computer skills, vocational exploration, and planning for the future.
Augmentative Communication Devices
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) equipment can have many forms: language boards/books, alphabet boards, and voice output switches are considered low tech devices. High technology items include, but are not limited to, laptop computers and iPads with specialized communication software, and computer-based voice output devices. Assistive technology such as key guards, mounting systems, touch screens, switches, or eye gaze systems may be required in addition to the AAC equipment.
Equipping students and clients to reach their full potential!
